Jack Clark pulling his self-improving AI timeline forward to 2027 is a notable signal, but the reasoning deserves scrutiny. Benchmarks measuring whether models can design and evaluate experiments on their own are genuinely one of the better proxies for automated AI research — that capability is what would actually compress progress cycles.… more

Still, our view is that timeline revisions driven by fast benchmark gains often outrun real-world impact: acing an experiment-design test is not the same as autonomously running a research program that yields novel, verifiable results. There is also an obvious conflict-of-interest angle — lab insiders benefit from urgency narratives, so their forecasts should be discounted accordingly. Worth watching whether independent researchers replicate the benchmark before treating 2027 as more than a talking point.
Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark moves his prediction for self-improving AI forward to 2027 A new benchmark by P-Zero Research measures how well AI models design and evaluate experiments on their own. The results are improving so fast that Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark now thinks self-improving AI could arrive by 2027. The article Anthropic co-fo…
